About Me
My name is Sophia Melissa Caraballo Piñeiro and I’m a writer, reporter, and editor based in New York City. Hailing all the way from Carolina, Puerto Rico, I got my bachelor’s degree in English literature with a minor in communications and writing at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez campus. I then traveled more than a thousand miles and ended up in the snowy hills of Syracuse, New York, where I got my master’s degree in magazine, newspaper, and online journalism (but mainly magazine and online) from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. In that year, I worked as a contributing writer for the school and multiple college magazines, was an office assistant, and a teacher’s assistant while juggling 18 credits/semester all at the same time. I learned how to properly manage my time, prioritize tasks, hand in clean copy under tight deadlines, and chase a story I believed in. I even won an award for my lengthy profile on Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to register and run the Boston Marathon.
I translated these skills and put them to good use in the multiple jobs I’ve held over the years. Writing mainly about health, lifestyle, beauty, and fashion, I’ve been able to expand my knowledge and create valuable contacts in a variety of industries.
I’m currently working as a celebrity news editor for Page Six. Coming from magazines, I was able to use my extensive knowledge in SEO and social media to write click-worthy stories.
Aside from writing, I enjoy long runs around the reservoir in Central Park, babysitting my friends’ kids and dogs, and staying in the loop on the latest beauty and skincare launches. During the 2020 quarantine, I also picked up baking by nailing my first banana bread and learned some very necessary recipes.
